What to check before you book
- Private or shared. Is the sauna just for your group, or shared with other guests or leisure club members?
- Sauna type. Wood-fired, electric (Finnish) and infrared saunas feel very different. Infrared runs much cooler.
- Opening times. Hotel saunas often close early in the evening or need booking. Holiday-let saunas may need warming up.
- Fee. Some hotels charge for spa or sauna access, even for guests. Ask whether it is included in your rate.
- Swimwear. Most UK hotel saunas require swimwear. In a private sauna it is up to you.
Where we have checked a sauna, you will see these details in its Sauna Passport with the month we checked it.
